Slide taken while Chanute AFB was still active. This was one of several a/c on display around the base. After the base closed it became part of the Octave Chanute Museum. Unfortunately when the museum closed in 2015 51-7200 did not find a new home and was scrapped.

This a/c is now on inside display at the museum.

Ex G-BMDX, re-registered as N3JY on 13 August 1986. Departed Guernsey on 17 August 1986 on delivery to the USA and made a stop at Prestwick that same day. The Albatross was noted passing through Reykjavik the next day.

Ex N7024S

Stored here in very faded USAF markings (ex 51-067) since about 1991. Remnants of serial "0-10067" and of the registration still visible on the tail and fuselage.

While in service with the USAF, this Albatross was loaned to Pan Am in 1969. It operated a weekly service as PA163 from Mombasa, Kenya to a satellite tracking station at Mahe, Seychelles, on a joint contract with the Philco Radio Corp. and the US government. It flew in bare metal as "0-17163", with a Pan Am logo on the nose. It was withdrawn from use on 3 Nov 1971, and stored at Long Beach, CA. It became N70725 in Sep 1977, and in 1987 it was restored to flying condition and flown to the Castle Air Museum, where it was restored in the markings seen here. The Albatross was first noted on display as such in Nov 1988.

The significance of the '049' on the nosewheel door (this side only) is unclear.

Originally USAF 51-7187. Not very much known about its status and ownership at the time. It became N48318 in June 1999 and was reported seen at Davis Monthan AFB in 2005 being used as a source of spares. Still there by March 2010.

Impounded aircraft

Ex USAF aircraft that went to the Michigan Military Air Museum prior to be civil registered. Impounded by the USAF Museum and sold. Reregistered N46RG in 1991.
