We were lucky enough to get three of the Mauritanian Fairchilds through Southend for maintenance. This aircraft, of 1959 vintage, initially served the colourful Bonanza Air Lines (which had a fleet of 11 of the type) as N148L then N748L, being sold on in 7.74 by Hughes Airwest via IAL to Mauritania. She returned to the US in 12.83 and two years later found her way to Aerocozumel in Mexico, taking up the reg XA-NAP formerly used on a Comet 4. Wfu at Cozumel early '90s

Originally ordered by John Hay Whitney in 1959 as a series "A", but converted to the "F" series standard in Sep 72. Seen parked at La Guardia's Marine Air Terminal Ramp.

Delivered new to Pacific Airlines in April 1959. After mergers it was operated by Hughes Airwest from April 1970 wearing this rather gaudy scheme.

It would be interesting to know how this aircraft made it into Dodson Aviation's yard in Rantoul, Kansas!

Ex US Navy UC-27 161628. Served Hawkins & Powers from August 1988 on comms duties.

Delivered new to Bonanza Airlines as N154L in April 1962. Merged into Air West in March 1968. Owned by Air Cortez from February 1983 until sale in 1986.

Operated by Air West and Hughes Air West from March 1968 until sale in January 1974.

Stored under the scorching Nevada sun, this F-27 earlier operated for UTA as F-OCXI, having originally been delivered in 3.64 to Pacific Air Lines (later merged into Air West then Hughes Airwest). Became HK-3356X with Aires Colombia in 10.87; wfu at Bogotá 9.94 and broken up three years later
