D-ABUG arriving in Sydney when Qantas and European airlines dominated air travel between the two continents

When looking out of the window in the Musée de l'Air I was delighted to see a 707 had arrived on the adjacent apron.

Rotating on take-off from runway 24. Worldways Canada acquired this 707 in 1981, and flew it into Amsterdam regularly. Two years later they switched to DC-8's and C-GRYN was sold to the Royal Australian Air Force, as A20-623. It served them faithfully until withdrawn from use 24 years later, in 2007. In 2011 it was sold to Omega Air as N623RH and stored at Brunswick, GA. It was still there in 2017.

From a severely faded and fungused slide, recovered using Photoshop. This aircraft was destroyed in a crash landing at Douala, Cameroun on May 11th 1980.

N8433 pushes back during American's unsuccessful first foray into the Australian market.

This grand old lady is polluting the skies no more. Her last flight was on 3 October 2016, one week after her retirement ceremony and one year after I caught her thrusting out of Torrejón.

Sold in 1977 as OO-YCK

One of Independent Air's duo of 707s captured during the take-off from Amsterdam's runway 24. This aircraft was purchased one year earlier (ex TWA N28727), but unfortunately crashed into the Pico Alto mountains, Azores on 8 February 1989. This accident led to the collapse of Independent Air in 1990.
