Operating a Scheduled Service - this aircraft was once a regular visitor to Prestwick

Wardair's first GE powered 747 was delivered new June 9, 1978. It was sold to British Caledonian Airlines in October 1986 as Wardair was changing from it's charter airline roots to scheduled service using smaller Airbus wide bodies.

9V-SQL Singapore Airlines Feb 1980. Leased to Garuda Jul.1987. back to Singapore Airlines in Sep. 1987 leased to Virgin Atlantic Airways as G-VRGN in Jul1989 named Maiden of Honour. leased to Tower Air as N618FF in Mar 1995 then went to United Parcel Service as N526UP in Mar 2001 in Dec 2005 leased to Tradewinds Airlines cargo same registration. in 2008 went to Kalitta Air under reg. N256UP and finally N708CK.

Taken from Ringway's control tower on the airport's 40th anniversary. Three 747s are loading on Pier Three for transatlantic flights. WD8163 for Toronto. C-FCRD on CP819 also for Toronto and G-AWNL on BA081 via Prestwick to Toronto.
