This Chinook started its life with Boeing as a new-built CH-47D with serial 92-00367 (c/n M4301). The helicopter was accepted by the US Army on 28 February 1994. It was converted to CH-47F from December 2007 and redelivered on 31 January 2009. It was directly assigned to the B/3-82nd AVN and deployed from Fort Bragg (NC) to Kandahar.

This Chinook was Boeing test registration N37040 before it was delivered to the RAF on 28 September 1981. It was built as a HC1, converted to HC2 and later to HC4 and HC6A. Echo Oscar is here seen assigned to 1310 Flight, that operated Chinooks in Afghanistan's Helmand Province for Operation Herrick and Kandahar Province supporting the International Security Assistance Force on Operation Toral. The flight had eight Chinooks under its control. In November 2014 five of these were returned to the UK and the three remaining were moved to Kabul to support the personnel training the Afghan Army.

On the picture, the Lima was assigned to Company C "Vipers", 2d Battalion (Assault), 82d Aviation Regiment "Corsair". The Viper marking is just visible on the engine bay.

Situated at an elevation of 4,429 feet (1,350 m) above sea level, Tarin Kowt Airport's main runway is designated 12/30. It received a concrete runway in 2012.

This unmarked 1988 built Beech performed a dirt strip landing at Tarin Kowt.

A new-built Foxtrot, it was accepted by the US Army on 30 September 2008 and assigned to the Bravo company of the 2-82nd AVN at Fort Bragg (NC). The helicopter got damaged on 13 June 2009 while deployed to Kandahar, during the engine shutdown the aft rotor hit the fuselage. The Chinook could be repaired on the sport and returned to service. It is seen here joining our Cougar over Uruzgan during a local mission.

This Black Hawk crashed on 21 September 2010 after recurring technical problems during flight. The helicopter came down in Zabul province, Afghanistan. Sadly, ten of the thirteen military on board were killed. On the picture, the Lima was assigned to Company C "Vipers", 2d Battalion (Assault), 82d Aviation Regiment "Corsair". The Viper marking is just visible on the engine bay.

On serial sequence... only the fiscal years are different, from left to right 04-08717, 06-08718, 06-08719, 06-08720, 07-08721, 07-08722, 07-08723 and leading the flight line (from this side), 07-08724. All these CH-47Fs belong to the B/3-82 AVN, normally based at Fort Bragg (NC).

This Chinook was built as a CH-47A with serial 63-07918. It was accepted by the US Army on 14 Oct'64. It was converted to CH-47D with serial 84-24186 from May'84 and was returned to service on 27 Nov'85. The Chinook was again converted from Aug'07. It became CH-47F with serial 07-08041. Like a cat with three lifes, the helicopter was accepted on 31 Jul'08 and assigned to B/3-82nd AVN. Its life came to an end on 18 Aug'10, only a few months after this picture was taken. It rolled on its side during a brown-out landing in Kandahar province (Afghanistan). The crew and passengers escaped uninjured

Assigned to the 16th Special Operations Squadron and deployed to Bagram air base (Aghanistan), this gunship was forced, during a night combat mission over Helmand, to divert to Kandahar airfield after engine 4 went unserviceable (see the propeller in feather position). After its military career, this gunship went into storage at Davis Monthan, AZ in April 2014.

An armed CH-146 Griffon ready for an escort mission over southern Afghanistan. The Canadian helicopter was assigned to the Joint Task Force Afghanistan Air Wing (JTF-Afg AW). The Griffon was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Canadian Forces Operation SAIPH that run from October 2009 - May 2012.

The 184th Fighter Squadron "Flying Razorbacks" is a unit of the Arkansas Air National Guard, 188th Fighter Wing, that is based ar Fort Smith Air National Guard Station (AR). The 184th swapped their A-10Cs for unmanned MQ-9 Reaper in June 2014. Here two Thunderbolt IIs are seen in between their revetments at deployment location Kandahar airfield, Afghanistan. Also visible in the picture is 78-0613/FS.

No. 1419 (Tactical Support) Flight RAF was relocted from Basra, Iraq (from elements of No. 28 Squadron, likewise the tailmarkings on this Merlin from RAF Benson) as part of Joint Helicopter Force (Iraq) until the British drawdown in Iraq. The flight (with the black painted bird on the fuselage) was relocated in 2009 to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Herrick. The flight was disbanded in May 2013 when the Merlins were returned to the UK. ZJ130 is seen here while visiting Kandahar airfield from Camp Bastion.

On its way for another combat mission to give close air support to ground troops, this 104th Fighter Squadron Thunderbolt II of the Maryland Air National Guard. The squadron is normally based at Warfield Air National Guard Base, Middle River, Maryland.
