Returning to Hawk Air's home base on Hawk Lake. Taken on charge new by the USAF in 1952 as 51-16557. Entered civilian life in Alaska as N2848D, the first Beaver on the US Civil Register. Imported to Canada in 1973. Joined Hawk Air in 1989. Destroyed in a sadly fatal accident on 11 July 2019. Power failed shortly after takeoff to the north east from Hawk Lake, likely due to fuel starvation. Stalled and crashed nose down, severing a power line and impacting beside an electricity sub-station in Hawk Junction immediately beyond the lake, with the loss of pilot and passenger.

Delivered new to the USAF in September 1953 as L-20A, (U-6A from 1962), 52-6146 and during its military career it served in the UK at USAF bases at Wethersfield, Chelveston and Mildenhall plus Chaumont and Phalsbourg in France. Retired to MASDC at Tucson in March 1972 it was civilianised as N67691 in February 1976. On 28th December 1989, after taking off from a rough sea in Raspberry Straight, Kodiak Island, AK., the aircraft pitched down, crashed and rolled over. The registration has been renewed several times since, the latest in May 2022, so a rebuild may be underway.

Delivered in 1956 as L-20, (re-designated U-6A in 1962), 54-1708 for the US Army, it was civilianised as N5342G for the Civil Air Patrol in September 1976. On 20th February 2009 at Kenai, AK., the aircraft was substantially damaged during a training flight when, after a touch-and-go landing on a frozen snow-covered lake, it failed to climb away and collided with tree-covered terrain. The remains were subsequently offered up to tender for scrapping / destruction only in 2012. (With thanks to the excellent dhc-2.com)

This Beaver is arguably the nicest Beaver in captivity. Pristeen, immaculate and many upgrades make it stand out. Not bad for an aircraft manufactured in 1948. It is being stored inside the KF Center for Excellence Museum in Kelowna for the winter and then it will return to summer flying.
