This is in fact F-100C 54-1986 which has been marked to represent the aircraft of Major 'Bud' Day, who was awarded a Medal of Honor after being shot down and taken POW in Vietnam while flying a 'Misty' FAC mission in August 1967. Two-seat F-100Fs were used for Misty missions and on that occasion Day was flying 56-3954 of 416 TFS/37 TFW. Whether the preserved F-100C is meant to represent that aircraft or Day, who was previously with 31 TFW, also flew F-100C 54-1954 as shown here is unclear - some coincidence about two 954s if so...

Actually 54-2290 and ex Danish AF G-290. While on delivery from Denmark to Turkey the aircraft malfunctioned and made an emergency landing in Italy. Ultimately the aircraft did not reach Turkey, but ended up as a gateguard at Aviano. The aircraft's name may refer to Danish Esk 727, that was the Super Sabre unit in Denmark, sporting Thor's hammer in the badge.

Correct serial 56-3727. Stored at Davis-Monthan AFB with park code FE360 from 1977. Preserved at Warrior Park near the main gate by 1989. Later repainted with its correct serial.

To the museum in 1975. It is painted in the Vietnam War era-markings of F-100C 54-1954, flown by Medal of Honor recipient Colonel George Bud Day which was written off in 1959.

Wears US Navy titles but was a US Air Force aircraft 53-3317.
