The aircraft was trucked to the RAAF Museum at Point Cook for restoration to a static exhibit. The museum had acquired the aircraft from the US in a swap for an airworthy Canberra (A84-229).

It was intended to be used as a spares source but remained complete. In 1970 it was seen at Bankstown assembled and with the "R" in the registration changed to "H". But this registration was not taken up and it remained a hangar queen. It resurfaced in 1989 as a restoration project and in 1997 finally entered the register - as VH-MKY.
