The Winton Grasshopper was one of the first generation of ultralights designed in Australia in the late 1970s following promulgation of the original ANO 95.10. The designer, Col Winton, used composites to keep the empty weight under 100 kg. This is a more modern version with an enclosed cockpit (the original was open).

Despite its current colourful but spurious colour scheme, this Argus was actually wartime production for the RAF as FK351, via lend-lease (ex USAAF 42-32155). After the war it was civilianised in the UK as G-AJXA prior to being exported to Australia. It was registered VH-CMB on 4 June 1954, with incorrect cn 362. Formerly based at Tyabb, it is now resident at Gatton, Qld.

Yarrawonga is situated adjacent to Lake Mulwala on the Vic/NSW border and this shot is looking east. The main runway is 01/19 and 1143 m. The other clay strip seems to have been added in 2007 and is shown as being for 'ultralight ops' in ERSA. To the left you can see some of the residential on-field blocks and associated new taxiways.

Where once the Viscounts came to train... Originally an RAAF base, Mangalore was developed after the Second World War as a diversion aerodrome for when Melbourne/Essendon was fogged in, its location north of the Great Dividing Range giving it good weather when the weather in Melbourne was bad. The field is still much as it was then. The nearest runway is 05/23, the photo looking east toward the township of Avenel.

'Middleton VC' arriving at the Temora Aviation Museum. This aircraft was noted with the RAAF's Roulettes aerobatic team in 1991, but shortly afterward was allocated to the Forward Air Control Development Unit at RAAF Williamtown. This is the second iteration of the FACDU grey scheme and these aircraft usually get around with tanks on, unlike the trainers. And don't those shark's teeth look good!
