Willy Messerschmitt designed the four-seat BFW M 18 at the request of Theodor Croneiss and his North Bavarian Airlines (NOBA) acquired a fleet of 19 examples. D-1347, D-1405 Gera and D-1365 were likely pictured at NOBA's base, the former Fürth / Nuremberg - Atzenhof airport. Wapitis had only just been delivered to the RAAF when A5-4 made an appearance at an air pageant at Essendon. It flew with the air force for 10 years until crashing at Mount Buninyong, Victoria on December 12, 1939. The RAAF received 44 Wapitis but one was damaged in a wharf accident and never entered service. Photo from: National Library of Australia
