This is one of the only three MC.205V preserved in Italy. It was initially hosted in Milan at the Science and Technolgy Museum, but was transferred in the Aermacchi plant in 1988. The Museum received, as a swap, the famous Veltro that was restored by Aermacchi in flying conditons in 1980, but had an accident in July 1983, and it could not fly any more. This MM92166 was part of a Series III batch of aircraft for the Egyptian Air Force, but never delivered.

This fighter was built during WWII as an MC.202 Folgore, MM91818. It was converted to MC.205 standard as MM9327 (c/n 6665) in 1947 but the intended delivery to Egypt did not go ahead. Restored to flying condition in 1980 as I-MCVE. Wore "MM92214" and "MM92215". Suffered structural damage in a mishap at Varese - Venegono in July 1986. Now preserved as MM9327, otherwise painted as an aircraft of the 1° Stormo, the first wing to enter combat with the MC.205 in the spring of 1943, based on the island of Pantelleria.

Please note that this is a mock-up, well done, but anyway a 1:1 scale model. It doesn't wear any serial (M.M.). The colour and insigna are not of the Italian Air Force (it was then Regia Aeronautica) but of the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana (3rd Squadriglia "Arciere"), that was the fraction of the air force that, after 8th September 1943, in the northern part of Italy remained allied to Germany. The real M.M. 92166 is well preserved within the Aermacchi plant (now Leonardo Aircraft Division) in Venegono Superiore.

Aircraft was at Malignani Technical Institute, Udine between 1960/1979. Restored to airworthy by Aeromacchi at Venegono, 1979/1980 and civil registered as I-MCVE. First flight, Venegono, Dec. 9, 1980. Initially flown as MM92214, later MM9327. Damaged during taxi accident, Venegono, July 23, 1982. Rebuilt by Aermacchi for static display, 1982-1987. Here it is on loan as MM92215 in the hangar of the 2nd Wing at Treviso S.Angelo (as seen by the coat of arms in the background) at a ceremony celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 2nd Wing, believed to be in September 1985.
