Rare survivor of the 2T trainer version of the Canuck.

Built as a Beech C23-19 Musketeer

Ex Royal Canadian Air Force Canso preserved under the trees at the small remote Memorial Military Museum in rural Ontario. The Canso was moved to the CWHM at Hamilton in 2010.

The identity of this Beech 18 is not definitively confirmed but is often given as '6144', although this is an incorrect serial for the RCAF. Around 1968, after service with the RCAF, Beech 18NM '2373' went to Priority Air Transport System Corp. at Redwood City, CA as N16144. In April 1972 the aircraft nose struck the ground during a landing at Coso Junction CA and it appears that the remains of the air frame are now on display at the Memorial Military Museum (any corrections/additions welcome).

It was a really gorgeous Autumn drive between Ottawa and Campbellford and I was rewarded with some interesting aeroplanes, such as this Tutor alongside Canuck 18106, at the Memorial Military Museum.

This Silver Star is on display at the Memorial Military Museum.

There were 10 Mk.II Canucks and this is is the only one built that was a dual-control trainer. These aircraft served in the RCAF from May 1952 until July 1958 and this single trainer is now on display at the Memorial Military Museum in Campbellford.

The Memorial Military Museum wasn't really a museum in the conventional sense, rather a few very interesting hulks out in the open. Nevertheless, it was well worth the (gorgeous) drive and detour to get there.
