Delivered to the USAF as 51-3833 in 1952. Stored at Davis-Monthan AFB in 1974. To N1027N in 1979 then to Northern Air Cargo in 1981. Withdrawn from use at Fairbanks by 2003. To Everts for parts in 2008.
Lineup of retired DC-6/C-118 type aircraft in the Everts boneyard at FAI. Note the DC-9 at the end of the lineup....it's interesting to note that the DC-9's are being retired before many of the DC-6/C-118's that they were supposed to replace.
When I started with this hobby, this airframe was actually based in Holland. With even a reservation for a dutch registration, PH-DAF. In the late 80s the European car factories ran lots of cargo charters to keep their factories running.
This has all the looks of a former Mexican T-28, even though the outer red triangle of the nationality marking is missing (faded?). The name under the cockpit reads 'Escobar' (making Spanish-speaking operator likely) and the Mexican air force used to operate the T-28A, one of which was registered 944.
