This was Leonardo's answer for a tactical multi-mission platform at the WDS 2022. This aircraft was equiped with an pallet-mounted Command-Control-Communications Intelligence-Surveillance-Reconnaissance (C3/ISR) system. It was fitted with the ISR optronic sensor under the nose, the air refueling probe, and the full defensive aids sub-systems suite, but was not at the fully Next Generation standard at this time. The aircraft flew under the registration CSX62220. The Italian crew confirmed that it was a Leonardo test aircraft, which is why photography was not permitted inside.

This aircraft was never used by the famous Frecce Tricolori. After an initial delivery to 32 Stormo it spent its operational life with 2 Stormo. But Codroipo is very close to the Frecce Tricolori's home base, so the painting with the colours of the celebrated Team is an obvious choice. Frecce Tricolori anyway used some G.91R, of the -1/A model, when the original PAN aircrafts started reaching the end of their structural life.

Rainy day for the annual static display of the Armed Forces day. The Orpheus recce pod on the center pylon was the common external store of the F-104Gs that were not RF model. This aircraft was written off during a dramatic take off crash at Villafranca on 26 July 1988. The aircraft did not lift off, hit a VOR antenna, exploded killing the pilot and throwing debris on the close motorway.

This aircraft was withdrawn from use in Villafranca in September 1985. 3 Stormo was its last operational unit. Then used by Aeritalia to create a mock-up of the ASA conversion of the F-104S under development. It initially received the fake MM6758 serial, that is the one of the real second ASA prototype, as photogrphed here in Milano Fiera d'Aprile. It was used for static displays in other events and in 1991 it was photographed being serialled MM6945, the serial of the real first ASA prototype. It is now preserved in Grosseto, at the local museum of the Base, wearing a special colour scheme.
