Rainy day for the annual static display of the Armed Forces day. The Orpheus recce pod on the center pylon was the common external store of the F-104Gs that were not RF model. This aircraft was written off during a dramatic take off crash at Villafranca on 26 July 1988. The aircraft did not lift off, hit a VOR antenna, exploded killing the pilot and throwing debris on the close motorway.

It was not so common to see a clean Starfighter. Always nice also if in a rainy day. Here photographed for the annual static display of the Armed Forces day.

This aircraft was later preserved on a pole as a gate guardian in Biella Cerrione, in the livery of Frecce Tricolori, also if it never operated with the Italian aerobatic team.

Ordered 11/1981. Built as a Block 15, A model Hornet. Delivered 27/06/86. The first 14 aircraft (A21-1 to A21-7, A21-101 to A21-107) were all allocated to 2OCU to enable the commencement of Hornet instructor training.
