The Neptune MR1 replaced the Avro Lancaster GR3 with 210 Squadron early in 1953 after the unit had moved to Topcliffe from St Eval. The unit disbanded at Topcliffe in January 1957 and WX526 was scrapped at RAF Siloth in November 1958. (photo by John Fricker)

The RAF received B-29s, Sabres and Neptunes in the early 1950s as the British industry failed to deliver competent aircraft in time. The P2V-5s had US Air Force rather than US Navy serials, 51-15914 in the case of WX493. Photo believed taken before delivery to No 217 Sqn in January 1952. The seaside location seems to be the unit's new base, Kinloss.
