Following completion and initial testing, the CV-22 164941 was assigned as an US Air Force test vehicle and based at Kirtland AFB (NM) from early 2002. The whole Osprey fleet was grounded in December 2000 and after that period was finished, the CV-22 again took to the air for the first time on 14 July 2003. It was modified to the final production configuration during summer 2004 and assigned to the CV-22 Integrated Test Team and later to the 418th Flight Test Squadron as part of the 412th Test Wing at Edwards AFB (CA) up to spring 2007. The tiltrotor was then returned to the US Navy Photo by Derek Bower
