Preserved by Hawker Siddeley in potentially airworthy condition, and passed to the Royal Navy Historic Flight in 1970. It was destroyed following hydraulic failure after take-off from RNAS Prestwick on 10-6-89, leaving one undercarriage leg in the landing position. The pilot ((Lt. Cdr. John Beattie) reluctantly parachuted to safety, leaving the aircraft to crash into the Irish Sea.

Just after take-off this aircraft suffered a hydraulic failure such that the starboard main gear locked up but the port main gear was locked down. The pilot spent over a hour trying to free the gear including several attempts to bounce the aircraft off the runway as in this shot. All efforts failed and the aircraft was abandoned over the Irish Sea. The pilot was picked up safely by a Sea King after less than 5 min in the water.

On 10 June 1989 this aircraft was lost after the starboard undercarriage leg couldn't be lowered at Prestwick Air Show. As landing in that configuration was deemed too dangerous, the pilot baled out at 6,000ft and was rescued by a Sea King helicopter. The Sea Fury crashed into the Firth of Clyde off Turnberry, Ayrshire.
