In basic Loftleidir colors

Leased as N804U on 29 January 1971 and restored as N8960T on 5 May 1972. Became N860FT on 3 April 1978 then N701UP in October 1985 converted to -71CF. Registration cancelled on 1 April 2010, and scrapped.

slide scan from the NK collection. - N8960T has been operated by Air Cargo Egypt for a year in 1977/1978. Its final operator UPS converted the aircraft to -71CF standard in 1985 and used the DC-8 until 2008, thereafter they withdraw it at Roswell.

Just departing after what would have been a fuel stop from Europe to the US west coast is this 1968 built DC-8. The first five windows are blanked so likely carrying cargo on a USAF/MAC combi charter. In those days there was a public viewing area with three-foot railing on the terminal roof. As can be seen from the bottom RH corner, I was not above hopping over the railing if necessary to get my shot!

This 'Stretch Eight' was involved in passenger charter flights at the timee and I don't know if it was already converted to freighter. TIA had a turquoise side stripe.
