G-AGKT was provided by BOAC to Qantas to operate from Australia to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) replacing Catalinas. The long-haul route avoided Japanese airspace and opened a quicker route to the UK than via the Pacific and the US. -AGKT, stripped of paint, continued with Qantas after the war and was the first Qantas aircraft to carry the kangaroo logo. Withdrawn from use in 1947, it was scrapped at Sydney airport without entering the Australian register. Photo from: Hudson Fysh Collection/State Library of New South Wales
