The remains of the original Fokker D.XXI 229 were placed in a tube construction. The fighter was shot down by a Messerschmitt Bf-109 near Nieuwkoop (NL) on 11 May 1940. The pilot, Roos, managed to survive. The Fokker was excavated from the soft soil on 12 June 1993. It can be seen in the CRASH museum in Aalsmeerderbrug (NL) Part of the wreckage served as a mould for the reconstruction of airworthy Fokker D.XXI PH-XXI

Retired in 1997. In use as an instructional airframe with Paramount Aerospace at Polokwane in 2019.

This Mongol-B was Taken on Charge with the NVA in 1974 as '229', transferring over to the German AF as '2360' upon re-unification. After decommissioning it was on display in Gilching, Bavaria but is now back in its NVA colours and is part of the super private collection at Zehdenick. The collection are happy to allow visitors but please always have the courtesy to ask at reception for permission to enter the site.

On 11 May 1940 this fighter was shot down by Bf 110s near Nieuwkoop, which happens to be my place of birth. In 1993 the wreck was excavated by members of the Crash Foundation to be put on display in their small museum. The museum later moved to Aalsmeerderbrug, just south of Schiphol.
