MDC delivered this DC-8 to Alitalia in 1970, as I-DIWW. It was withdrawn from use in 1981 and sold as N39305 two years later. In 1988 it entered the MGM Grand Air fleet, and became N802MG in 1990. Kalitta acquired it in 1996 and converted it to a freighter. Transferred to Kitty Hawk in 1999, and then sold to African International in early 2002. With them it initially flew as 3D-AIA, but was soon reregistered to ZS-OSI, as seen here. Finally, in 2009 it went to Stars Away and was permanently withdrawn from use in 2012. In early 2015 this beauty was broken up at Manston, UK.

Originally Alitalia's I-DIWV from 11.67, later serving Sea & Sun, MGM and Trans Continental before being leased to Kuwait in 12.98. Crashed and burned on landing at Kinshasa N'Djili on 16.10.99 while operating for MK out of Ostend. Two other DC-8Fs were leased by Kuwait in full colours around the same time

Magnificent machine pulling off Brize's runway 26 - not too many DC-8s were allowed in the UK by this time but this one was a good airframe by all accounts. Started life as Alitalia's I-DIWW and later N802MG with MGM Grand Air. Stored at Manston and sadly never made it out before the airport closed, then being broken up

Although the 707 became a very familiar part of the Southend landscape, DC-8s have always been far more unusual. She's the former SE-DBG of SAS, sold by Cygnus Air to Compagnie Africaine d'Aviation in 8.08; stored JNB 2011. Behind is 707 9Q-CBW
