Ex RAF MW143. This York was used by Dan-Air to operate a regular freight schedule for BEA Heathrow-Ringway-Renfrew (Glasgow) for about 18 months until BEA's Argosy freighters were delivered.

This York was a built at Avro's Yeadon (Leeds) factory in mid 1946 for the RAF as a long range freighter. Operated by 511 Squadron based at RAF Lyneham. After many sorties on the Berlin Airlift (Operation Plainfare), often carrying coal, it is being serviced by Fairey Aviation at Ringway, before returning for more punishment!

Avro York of No. 51 Squadron landing on Ringway's 3300 ft Runway 20 after a test flight flown by a Fairey Aviation pilot. The York had been deployed on the Berlin Airlift and it returned to Germany after servicing by Faireys.
