Two weeks after Lindbergh's solo flight, Clarence Chamberlin and Charles Levine crossed the Atlantic from New York to Mansfeld in Germany in the WB-2 Columbia. In their triumphant tour they visited Budapest. This excellent aircraft, which went on to make many long-range flights, had been Lindbergh's first choice, having set an endurance record of 51 hours. The number 140 may be an old race number. The original destination, Paris, has been painted out and oddly Cottbus, where the aircraft stopped by on 7 June before arriving in Berlin, has been added. Another photo of the Pride of Los Angeles triplane that was entered for the Dole Air Race to Hawaii. The titles and aircraft name can be discerned here on a darker paint job that was reportedly orange. If this was applied as a safety measure, it was one of the few taken for the race. On the nose is probably still the globe logo of the International Aircraft Corporation. The CF-10's middle wing only ran outboard of the engines! Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum

Catron & Fisk already did passenger flights between Bakersfield and Los Angeles with a smaller, trimotor triplane in 1922. The CF-10 first flew on 20 May 1925 according to The Ace magazine which published a photo in June. In that shot the aircraft has protruding ailerons on the lower wings that are no longer present here. Another photo, taken at Burdett Airport, LA, shows a CF-10 marked 'CF-43' in a circle on the fuselage and this may well be the same aircraft. It is worth noting that the US civil aviation register was almost non-existant before 1927. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum

When the monoplane airliner already ruled the skies, Catron & Fisk came up with the CF-10 triplane. They became International Aircraft Corporation in 1927 and this photo clearly shows that this aircraft, entered in the Dole Air Race to Hawaii by cowboy actor Hoot Gibson and friends, was prepared as the International F-10. The F-10 crashed off Oakland on arrival for the race. The two crew and one passenger swam ashore unhurt. It is believed that this machine was never registered. Also see photo 365856 for the International F-18 entry. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum

A five-seat air taxi, the Praga E-211 was a refined development of the pre-war E-210. It was abandoned in favour of the more promising Aero 45. The first of two prototypes first flew on 13 June 1947 and flew to Belgium on 1 July for display at the 3rd Brussels Air Salon. This event took place in the complex housing the Military Museum, but probably in the other wing. British company Cunliffe-Owen displayed a full-size model of their Concordia small airliner. The Olympic brand name was briefly used by the Loughead brothers when the Lockheed company had been sold to Detroit Aircraft. The Duo-4 twin had only a few inches of clearance between the two propellers. It was reportedly damaged during its first flight here at the Muroc Dry Lake on 18 March 1931. Other sources say it first flew in 1930. It was later rebuilt as the Duo-6 with bigger engines. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum
