The sole Fairey FD1 research delta was assembled at Ringway and made its first test runs down the 4200 ft main runway. Transferred by Road to AAEE Boscombe Down for its first flight. Two other examples were ordered but cancelled.

Only five were built before the programme was cancelled in favour of the upcoming turboprop Gannet. RN241 was the first of two completed at Fairey's Ringway facility. None of the type survives.
