As one can guess from the folded-wingtips this was a Naval Zero and painted to represent a section leader's aircraft from the aircraft carrier 'Zuiho' during the Battle of the Bismarck Sea, March 1943. This plane was discovered near the city of Kavieng on New Ireland, Papua New Guinea and after restoration was placed on display at the National Museum for the USAF in 2004.

Its short range made its missions almost as deadly for the crews of the launching G4M2 'Betty' bombers as for the suicide pilots themselves, but a few US ships were sunk or damaged by Ohka attacks in the spring of 1945. This machine was coded I-13 on the nose when it was captured on Okinawa. It carries the number 10461 on the wing root which I presume is the serial number.

The J1N1-C reconn Irving was modified to become the nightfighter Gekko (moonlight) by incorporating an upward firing gun where the observer once sat. This is the last Gekko extant and is on display at the NASM Udvar-Hazy Center.
