The first Tri-Motor for the US Army Air Corps, an early 4-AT-A. Ex NC3444, it arrived at Wright Field on 8 February 1928, then officially designated as the XC-3. Remained in service until July 1932. By 1931 it no longer wore code P-506. The Army ordered seven 4-AT-Es as C-3As, later modified to C-9 standard. The sole C-4 was a 5-AT-B model and was followed by four 5-AT-Ds as C-4As. There was also a bomber prototype called XB-906, civil reg NX9652. Photo from: US Air Force

One of the few good photographs available of the B-60, ordered originally as a B-36 Peacemaker variant. Only the first prototype was flown, 20 times by Convair from 18 April 1952 and just four times by the US Air Force in January 1953. It is seen here over Kramer Junction near Edwards AFB. The USAF cancelled the B-60 already in August 1952 as the B-52 was way superior. Photo from: US Air Force

A pleasant surprise to see an ex 32 TFS F-4E Phantom at Mojave! It served at Soesterberg for a number of years before being flown back to the USA. The emblem of its latest unit, 21st TFTS at George AFB is still visible on the intake. After this unit was inactivated in June 1991, its Phantoms were flown to AMARC. In the boneyard, 74-0654 received inventory number FP612. It was photographed at Mojave during its conversion to QF-4E, with conversion number AF259. It was eventually shot down on 27 June 2007.

The Eagle, only retrospectively designated Model 19 by Curtiss, was a 1919 airliner with a nicely crafted fuselage seating eight people, including the one or two pilots. It was originally a trimotor. The Eagle II was a twin and the Eagle III was powered by single 400-hp Liberty engine. Only a few Eagles were built, the only customer being the US Army Air Service which bought three Eagle IIIs. Optimistically called a 'hospital ship', s/n 64243 was equipped as a four-litter ambulance, but crashed on 28 May 1921. The pilot and all six passengers were killed.
