This early US Navy night fighting equipped Hellcat served in the Pacific Theater in 1944. Rotated back to the USA as newer F6F-5Ns became available, the aircraft trained pilots until becoming an instructional airframe at NAS Norfolk. Forgotten until found in a container in the early 70s, it was saved from scrapping, displayed at the US Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, VA and loaned to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in 2002. Traded for by the Collings Foundation in 2012, the aircraft is pictured shortly after a complete restoration and making it's first flight on July 15, 2019.

The history of this Bird Dog is somewhat elusive at the moment, but it is thought to have come from a 1953 batch and eventually found its way to Australia via Thailand. First registered as VH-SCB on 24 April 1992 and currently based in Albury.
