NZ2423 went into storage very soon after arriving in NZ. It was placed in a rubberised cocoon and moved to Ardmore aerodrome by barge and truck. In 1952 it was reactivated and flown to Hamilton for a further period of storage. In 1954 it was finally delivered to No.2 Wellington squadron and would end up making the last RNZAF P-51 flight in 1957. NZ2423 is in civilian hands and being restored.
