NZ2423 went into storage very soon after arriving in NZ. It was placed in a rubberised cocoon and moved to Ardmore aerodrome by barge and truck. In 1952 it was reactivated and flown to Hamilton for a further period of storage. In 1954 it was finally delivered to No.2 Wellington squadron and would end up making the last RNZAF P-51 flight in 1957. NZ2423 is in civilian hands and being restored. Photo here shows it at the old Mangere airport (now part of Auckland International) around the time it was flown from Ardmore to Hamilton.
