At the time of the photo VH-BLS, which had operated as a freighter, had not been registered since 1949. BLS and sister ship VH-BKA did amass a debt for hangarage at Bankstown which might explain its good condition. Both Ansons were ferried to Evans Head for storage before BLS was ferried to Moorabbin for rebuilding. It emerged from that rebuild in early 1955 as a passenger aircraft fitted with the smooth engine cowlings from an Airspeed Oxford. A few months later the registration was cancelled as withdrawn from use. Debt from storage at Bankstown and Evans Head may have been a factor.

The only Australian Prentice. Australian authorities imposed a restriction on all-up weight that limited the use of the type . When the owner complained he was told he could arrange for the aircraft to be tested but he would have to pay the cost. VH-BAO soon changed hands. It crashed at Cobar on April 26, 1960. The pilot and passenger were unharmed and it was dismantled by professional engineers. But where it was taken is not known. VH-BAO remained registered until 1969. Eric Allen photo
