Perhaps the last place you'd expect to find a maritime patrol bird from the Cold War is rural central Ohio, and yet here she is. Preserved at VFW Post 3761 just outside of Baltimore is this beauty, seen here basking in the autumn morning light. Came to this location from what was then Lockbourne AFB, where she had been utilized as a crash rescue trainer.

CH-47D, N49CU, has fought fires in the US, Chile and Bolivia. Seen being prepared at KTRM Thermal Airport, CA for a new firefighting contract in Argentina. This Chinook was the last of 12 Royal Australian Air Force CH-47C's (A15-012). In 1993, seven surviving RAAF CH-47Cs were sold to the US Army and four others upgraded by Boeing to CH-47Ds. This CH-47C, msn CE012, 73-21981 became US Army CH-47D, msn M3461, 93-00934. Based in Hawaii in 2007. To Unical Aviation in 2017 as N160CZ. To Coulson-Unical as N49CU in April 2020 and modified by Coulson Aviation at its HQ in Port Alberni, BC, Canada.

Boeing CH-47D, N47CU is one of the oldest operational Chinooks in the world, and the oldest in civil use. Built as CH-47A msn B017, 61-2413 for the US Army and later upgraded to a CH-47D, msn M3440, 92-00299. It was sold to Unical Aviation Inc. in California and registered N160EB in April 2017. In March 2019, Coulson Aviation partnered with Unical to put some of its ex-US Army CH-47s and UH-60As to work fighting wildfires in the US, Australia and South America. Reregistered N47CU in Sep 2019. Coulson-Unical renamed Coulson & Tan. N47CU went to Chile by sea in Nov 2022 to fight wildfires.

This Coulson Aviation USA Canadair CL-600 Challenger was delivered new to the Clinton Aviation Group as N29867 in April 1982 and re-registered N600TT a couple months later. It became N500LS in Nov 1983 and N600LS in Nov. 1985 and N601LS in Sep. 1988. The aircraft returned to Canada in Dec. 1988 and became C-FSIP with Intera Technologies in Calgary, AB. To Pal Air in Calgary in 1995 and re-registered C-GDDR in Jan 1996. To the Coulson Group's Executive Transport Airways division in Port Alberni, BC in Sept 2015. To Coulson Aviation's US unit in Sep 2017.

Coulson Timber of Port Alberni, BC entered the aviation business in the late 1980s when it bought a Sikorsky S-61N for heli-logging, then won S-61N firefighting contracts in the Canada, the US and Australia. In 2007, Coulson bought Flying Tankers' two Martin JMR Mars flying boats and won a USFS contract in the US. When the Mars contract was cancelled, Coulson started converting C-130Q/Hs and later Boeing 737-300s into air tankers. Four Cessna 550s with sensors retired by the US Customs & Border Protection are now used to support fire ops in the US and overseas, including N552CG, ex-N4614N.
