The aircraft was delivered new to Pacific Northern Airlines (PNA) as N720V in March 1962, and after PNA's 1967 merger with Western Airlines it was repainted in the latter's livery. In 1973, after a period of storage at Las Vegas, it was acquired by Alaska Airlines and re-registered N301AS; it served with them until December 1975 when it, and a sister-ship, was traded to Pan American in part exchange for 4 Boeing 727-21s and flown to MIA for storage. In January 1984 it was noted that the breaking up process had been started and the registration was cancelled in January 1987.

This aircraft was sold to Bolivia in March 1981 as CP-1674 and it is reported online that on 22nd July 1989, whilst operating for SASA - Servicios Aéreos Santa Ana, it crashed into Chacaltaya Mountain in the Bolivian Andes at Flight Level 150 when descending into La Paz El Alto International Airport in IFR conditions.

Originally built for the US Navy as Lockheed PV-1 BuNo 34964 it was scheduled for transfer to the the RAF as FP681 but passed to the South African Air Force as 6454 . In 1960 it was acquired by Howard Aero and, following conversation to Howard 500 status, was operated by a number of corporate owners. Its ultimate fate is unknown but it is rumoured to have served for the CIA in support of Nicaraguan rebels during the period of the Iran/Contra scandal. The registration was cancelled in April 2013 due to the expiration of its certificate.

Almost unbelievably the aircraft recovered from this and went on to serve with North American Airlines. In 1984 it was sold to Scenic Air Tours of Honolulu, but never made it there as on 5th April that year it crashed at Scottsdale, AZ., whilst on the ferry flight to Hawaii.

Scruffy Douglas DC-6BF N8CA clearly showing signs of its Zantop ancestry when photographed at Miami International on 06-11-1979. Some years later it was impounded for drug running at Merida, Mexico, and was last photographed derelict in the undergrowth there in May 2017 and is still discernible there on Google Earth imagery dated June 2020.

This off airport museum, which housed the original full scale Boeing 2707 SST, closed down in 1981. The fate of this Beech after that is unknown. The SST found its way to the Hiller Aviation Museum, San Carlos, California.
