The Black Viggen! JA37 Jakt Viggen 37412 was delivered to the Swedish Air Force in 1986. It served with various units and was first upgraded to JA37D and later to JA37DI. During their career with the Swedish Air Force, several promotional or commemorative paintschemes were applied to individual Saab Viggens, including red, blue and 37412 received this black colour.

The Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand has one of the largest collections of Saab Viggen fighters in Sweden. Five complete examples and two front fuselages are present. One of these is this AJS37 37097 in the colours of F15. It previously served with F6 after being delivered to the Swedish Air Force in 1977. In 1997 it was modified to AJS37 standard.

Although not visible in this picture, the two-seat Viggen has a unique tandem cockpit with periscope for a better view from the back seat. A relatively small number of two-seaters was built and this example is one of few that has been preserved. Its cockpit is covered here to protect the glass from colouring by the elements. The excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand has 37803 on outside display.

The Sk60B was the two-seat attack version of the Saab 105 trainer as used by the Swedish Air Force. The type was retired by the Swedish Air Force in 2024, although this particular example with serial 60056 has been with the excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand since June 1999.

Ex N9887A and CN-MAL with the air force of Morocco, this Beech D18S has received the colours of the Swedish Air Force to represent the type as used by the Swedish Air Force as Tp4. This aircraft sat outside at Malaga (Spain) for years, before it was obtained by the Swedish Air Force for display and can now be found at the excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand. Usually this aircraft is displayed outside during Summer months, but with the museum still closed for the season, it was still parked inside during this visit.

The Alouette II, or Hkp2 in Swedish Air Force parlour, is one of the first rescue helicopters that served with the Swedish Air Force. It is preserved in the excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand.

The front fuselage of Saab AJSF37 Viggen 37950 is preserved in the excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand. It was the first SF37 Viggen built, where SF stands for Spaning-Foto (photo reconnaissance). The radar in the nose of the Viggen was replaced by various cameras and additionally camera pods could be carried under the wings.

Delivered on 22 January 1960 to the Swedish Air Force as a J32B, this Lansen served with F1 and F4, as depicted here during the sixties. It was modified to a J32E in 1979 and can be found in the excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand since October 1997.

A one of kind, a Swedish Air Force T-6 not built by Noorduyn, this particular example was sourced on the civil market as NC4603V, ex RCAF 3223 on 27 January 1954. It is known to have served with F5 and F4 respectively and is saved for future generations in the excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand.

DH Vampire FB50 28311, designated J28B with the Swedish Air Force is one of the few survivors of the type in Sweden. It was delivered on 28 June 1951 and served with different units of the air force. Today, it can be seen in the excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand.

The Götaverken GV-38 was based on the Rearwin 9000L Sportster, alhtough it was not an exact copy. The wing spars and fuselage stringers were strengthened. The steel tubes of the fuselage frame were dimensionally larger than on the original aircraft. The lower section of the rudder was increased in order to improve the spin characteristics. Only 14 of these aircraft were built in Sweden and this one survives in the excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand.

Delivered to the Swedish Air Force on 25 August 1953, one of many Tunnans built, it served with local F4 in 1956-1957 and is seen here in the excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand.

Actually a former Royal Norwegian Air Force Noorduyn Norseman (ex 44-70384), this particular aircraft was painted to represent a Swedish Air Force Tp78 Norseman. The type was used by the local Jämtlands flygflottilj (F4) and the badge of this unit, featuring a white elk with red hoofs and antlers can be seen on the nose. The orange colours represent service as a SAR and medevac-aircraft.

Guarding the entrance to the Flyg och Lottamuseum in Optand, near Östersund is JA37D Jakt Viggen 37448. It wears the unit code 4 of the Flygflottilj 4 that was based at nearby Frösön. The excellent museum first opened its doors in 1995, is open during Summer months and has one of the largest collection of Viggens in Sweden.

Schneider Grunau Baby gliders were built under license in Sweden by AB Flygplan in Norrköping. This example can be found in the excellent Flyg- och Lottamuseum in Optand, with the markings of former local unit of this part of Sweden, F4.
