"DEVIL 01" F-14A coming off 24R to taxi back to the VF-301 line. Just 4 months after this photo was taken the squadron was dis-established.

At the time this was NAS Miramar

This F-4 shot down a MiG-17 on May 10 1972 and the MiG silhoutte is painted back at the base of the fin. Sadly this F-4 met it's demise at the 2002 Pt Mugu airshow in an accident after a fly-over with 3 other aircraft. After the break to land the aircraft lost control and was destroyed killing both occupants.

VF-301 was a US Navy Reserve squadron based at NAS Miramar, CA. Slide taken at NAS Fallon during the Reserve Air Wing 30 annual two week active duty training. The S on the intake splitter plate indicates the squadron earned a Safety award for the previous fiscal year. This a/c was eventually converted to a QF-4N and was expended (shot down by missile) on 11 August 1993.

After its military career, this Naval reserve Cat was retired to AMARC with inventory code 1K0012 in August 1990. It departed AMARG as AN1K0012 on 4 April 2005 with a sad destination, HVF West where it was scrapped. 158994 was delivered to the US Navy on 17 May 1974 and VF-2 was its first user. It then served VF-1, VF-124 before its was assigned to VF-301 Devils Desciples. VF-301 was disestablished on 31 December 1994.

Early photo of VF-301 Phantom, which had transitioned to the F-4B in June 1974. This aircraft was later converted to F-4N and crashed in Florida on 12 August 1980.
