The aircraft also served with the Luftwaffe as 25+11 before retirement to the museum.

Great plane preserved in a great museum. Normally most aircraft have their cockpits covered. We were lucky these had been removed during our visit.

Originally delivered in 1984 to JBG-77 (note the squadron badge on the tail) she was scheduled to be handed over to the Volksmarine MFG-28. Due to German unification this transfer never happened and as the GAF never operated any Fitters (although allocated the serial 2505 (25+05)) she was retired and eventually ended up on display at the Aeronauticum museum.

Old photos of MiGs and Sukhois often look like this. I now realize that this is simply because these aircraft, with their very long pitot tubes, are difficult to photograph on a flightline.

Allocated the GAF serial 2511 (25+11) after unification.

The GDR coat of arms consisted of a hammer and a pair of compasses in a wreath of rye which ironically from a distance resembles the golden arches of a certain capitalist hamburger chain. The JBG 77 wing was named after Prussian field marshall Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher (1742-1819), who has converted to jet equipment.
