The Thulin A was a Swedish licence built Blériot XI. This was one of the very first aircraft to serve with the Swedish Navy, as there was no air force at the time and the army was not interested in aircraft yet.

This restored Bleriot XI is very difficult, if not impossible to steer on the ground with no tailwheel and an engine that is either on or off, with nothing in between. As a result, the old girl has to be guided and helped into place before starting a take-off run. Pictured here about to perform a very majestic, slow-motion display at this super old timers show.

A nice angle on this original 1918 Blériot XI, owned and flown by Mikael Carlson, while making a left turn for landing with Burg Teck gracing the background. This aircraft was licence-built in Sweden in 1918 by AB Enoch Thulin Aeroplanfabrik (AETA), under the name Thulin A. In 1986 Mikael found it in a barn in disassembled but complete condition, restored it, and first flew it in 1991. Mikael keeps his planes at his private airstrip at Kvarnhem, Sebbarp in Löberöd, Sweden.

A sight from the early days of aviation - although this genuine, airworthy Thulin-Blériot was strangely only built in 1919.

Louis Blériot flew across the English Channel on 25 July 1909. In 1999, Swedish airline pilot Mikael Carlson followed in his footsteps in a 1918-built Thulin-Blériot, SE-XMC. Here he is flying his second genuine Thulin-Blériot - wonderful!
