This Workhorse was delivered to the USAF on 13th June, 1955 and served until retirement in 1970, whereupon it was transferred to the National Museum of the United States Air Force Loan Program and placed at Offutt AFB in the original SAC Museum. When the new building was opened at Ashland (and the museum renamed to SAC & Aerospace Museum) it moved across and is now on display hanging from the roof.
Pictured in the storage yard adjacent to the Pima Air & Space Museum. I really enjoy photographing these old hulks but finding out all about their service history and how they came to be in such disrepair is interesting too. This particular helicopter served with the AF Flight Test Centre at Edwards AFB before being retired to AMARG during Oct. 69 where she was stored with the PCN/Inventory No. HC025.
