Ex Swissair HB-IRF. Went to the USA in '76 as N99873 and later, the same year, to Ethiopian Airlines as ET-AGK. Damaged beyond repair 15 October 1978. Used for ground training.

Ex 43-49204, HB-IRF (Swissair 1946-1960) EC-AQF (Spantax 1960-1976) and N99873 (ADCO 1976). To Ethiopian Airlines in September 1976 and damaged landing at Soddu in October 1978. Withdrawn and used for ground training at Addis Ababa.

Aircraft written off Seddu (SDU) Oct 15th 1978 : diverted to SDU after Hydrauilic failure and finished landing run in a ditch.

The resumption of commercial aviation in Europe. The USAAF C-47 - engines running - has perhaps just arrived to become Swissair's HB-IRF in May 1946 after conversion. The photographer was really shooting the C-47A on the right, PH-TBA, which flew KLM's first postwar Amsterdam to Zürich service that Monday. It is still camouflaged with the KLM logo on the rudder. Wearing a modernised colour scheme, this C-47B had arrived on SR118 from Zurich and was hangared overnight in Ringway's 1938-built initial hangar. It would leave next morning on the four-hour return flight to Kloten.

Ex USAAF 43-49204 serving with the 9th AF in World War Two. Bought by Swissair in May 1946 and operated until sold as EC-AQF in November 1960. Seen at Manchester Ringway in early 1949 wearing the initial bare metal scheme when operating SR118/119 from/to Zurich Kloten.
