It was a fun day, with constantly changing weather conditions, that 21 June 1990. Besides four Luftwaffe Phantoms, it also saw the arrival of seven EG F-15s of the 56th TFW, a 10th MAS Sherpa, a Portuguease C-130, two Dutch F-16s, and locally based 32nd TFS Eagles and 334sq F27s. This F-4F (FMS 72-1213) flew first on 18 Dec'74, was delivered to the Luftwaffe 29 Jan'75 and was sadly scrapped at Jever, after 33 years of military service by June 2008.

The Luftwaffe Jagdgeschwader 72 (JG72) "Westfalen" was stationed at Hopsten Air Base. Originally, the unit was put into service as Jagdbombergeschwader 36 (JBG36) but they transitioned into a fighter squadron from 1991. After the decommissioning on 31 January 2002, the 2nd Staffel of JG72 continued until mid-2006 as the Fluglehrzentrum F-4F (FLZ, F-4F) or F-4F flight training center, the JG72 patch on the intake continued. This 3803 was eventually scrapped after its military career.
