Delivered to the USAF in November 1961 as a standard C-135A Stratolifter, in 1966 61-0327 was converted into an EC-135N Apollo/Range Instrumentation Aircraft (ARIA) with 7ft antenna dish in a large nose extension. That was removed in the mid-1980s, but the aircraft retained an extensive communications system. In 1987 it came to the 19th ARW at Robins AFB, where it joined an EC-135Y as a special airborne command post aircraft, transferring 10 years later to Headquarters USCENTCOM at MacDill AFB, FL. It was retired for preservation in 2003

This aircraft is one of eight KC_135-C-A converted for the A/RIA program. This aircraft was scrapped reference Joe Baugher's page 12th September 2013. Another has 13th February 2013.

In Australia for Apollo 16 moon mission.

61-0328 had positioned to Australia ahead of the Apollo 11 moon mission. It was destroyed near Walkersville, Maryland, on May 6, 1981, when control was lost during a training mission and it broke up in a high-speed dive. There were no survivors among the 17 crew and four passengers.
