On 1 September 1969, this Su-9 arrived at Monino for display. The Su-9 has many similarities with the ground attack Su-7, but was solely used as a fighter. None of the around 1150 airframes built was ever exported, making it unlikely to encounter one outside the former USSR states.

A few rare Su-9s can be found on display in Eastern Belarus. Although over one thousand of the type were built, not many survive. In the town of Klimavichy, this example can be found with bort 35 red.

Preserved at the Central Aerodrome Museum at the Frunze Central Airfield/Khodynka, Moscow. The museum closed in 2003 and the aircraft moved on. The site was redeveloped.
