You can hear the roar from here... Australian National Airways' Douglas DC-6 VH-INW 'Kurana' at full takeoff power tucks away her gear, probably at Essendon in the early 1950s. This aircraft was delivered to National Airlines in the USA in 1947, registered N90894. When ANA bought her in 1953, they liked the National colour scheme so much that they adopted it themselves. Kurana was transferred to ANSETT-ANA when the airlines merged in 1957, and was sold back to the USA in 1960. She spent time on the Nicaraguan and El Salvadoran registers and was scrapped at Miami in 1977.

John Harrison photo of VH-UZK over Melbourne soon after delivery. In 1939 it was impressed by the RAAF as A30-2 for five months until other aircraft aircraft could be sourced overseas. -UZK was destroyed on November 8, 1948 when it flew into Mount Macedon. It had not long departed Melbourne for Deniliquin when the captain departed the approved track under IFR conditions.
