The RAE merged into DRA in 1991 but at the time of this photo the aircraft still wore the badge and the Royal Aircraft Establishment title on the air intake

Delivered to the Fleet Air Arm at Lossiemouth in June 1967. Transferred to the RAF in November 1978 and joined the MOD(PE) trials unit from 1979. Painted in the 'Raspberry Ripple' colour scheme in 1980 and retired at Boscombe Down in September 1994. Transported to Farnborough for use as a gate guard by the DERA (later QinetiQ). Still present there at time of upload.

Operated by RAE and latterly DRA at Farnborough. Primarily developing night operation equipment for combat aircraft using FLIR and night vision goggles. It was retired in September 1994.

In July 1978 HMS Ark Royal was undergoing maintenance at Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville, FL. During that time 809 Sq. operated out of NAS Cecil Field which was near Jacksonville. The squadron conducted training flights around the U.S. including NAS Alameda, CA. XV344 is currently on display at the Defense Science & Technology Lab at Farnborough.
