After abandoned at Chandler when the airport closed in 2007, this classic Howard 500 gradually deteriorated until becoming a graffiti billboard, eventually vandalized and set on fire.

Ordered by the US Navy as PV-1 48722. Transferred to the RAF as Ventura GR.V JS942 then diverted to the SAAF as 6458. To Howard Aero in San Antonio, TX in 1959, converted to a Super Ventura by 1962 and registered as N130PL. Converted to Howard 500 c/n 500-114 in 1964 and reregistered as N130P. Stored at Chandler-Gila River Memorial by 1987. Still there in 2020 in derelict condition.

Built in 1943 as US Navy PV-1 48722 but transferred to RAF as JS942 and SAAF as 6458. Sold to Howard in 1960 as N130PL. Converted to Howard 500 N130P with new c/n 500-114 and operated by several owners as an executive aircraft until stored at Chandler by 1987, becoming derelict there.

This rare aircraft was left behind when Intl Air Response moved to Casa Grande Airport. It's owner attempted to make it airworthy to ferry it out but was unsuccessful. The aircraft has been vandalized and is probably beyond repair.

In March 2006 when I last visited Chandler Memorial there was a mechanic who was working on this aircraft to get it airworthy for a ferry flight to a new owner in Idaho. He told me the airplane was in very poor condition he doubted it could be made airworthy for a reasonable cost. Apparently he was right because no further progress has been made on restoration since my visit over a year ago.
