The Vampire was the first jet aircraft in the Flygvapnet with deliveries beginning in June 1946. In total, Sweden acquired seventy Vampire F.1s, designated J 28 although this was later changed to J 28A as further Vampire versions arrived.

Chased by a MiG-15 in the Flygvapenmuseum, the Vampire was the first jet fighter in Swedish service, preceding the indigenous J21R and J29 by several years. The first five machines, including this one, were delivered to F13 wing at Norrköping on 4 June 1946.
