With high accident rates when the single-seat F-100 was introduced from 1954, the F-100F two-seater evolved allowing instructor training, while retaining basic combat capabilities. As tactics developed in SE Asia, the F-100F was used for SAM suppression and high-speed Forward Air Control, known as "Misty FAC". Displayed in its 1968 colours, this one was a Misty aircraft assigned to the 37th TFW at Phu Cat AB, Vietnam, serving many Tactical Fighter and Crew Training Wings before and after. On display at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. From traditional bombing, the two-seat F-100F developed into Iron Hand, Fast FAC and weather recce roles. The first Wild Weasel I unit was the 354th TFS flying the F-100F from Takhli using APR-25/26 RHAW against SA-2 and AAA sites. This F-100F was a Misty FAC assigned to the 416th TFS, 37th TFW at Phu Cat AB and was flown by two eventual Chiefs of Staff. The only Misty FAC Medal of Honor recipient was Maj. George "Bud" Day, one among almost a quarter of the 155 Misty pilots to be shot down.

Initially conceived as a two-seat training version of the F-100, to help reduce the retatively high rate of accident losses, the F-version in SE Asia proved ideally suited for new missions: surface to air missile (SAM) suppression ('Iron Hand') and high-speed forward air control ('Misty FAC'). This Hun was a Misty FAC aircraft assigned to the 37th TFW at Phu Cat AB, Vietnam and went on display at the National Museum of the USAF in 2003.
