This was the second Skyhawk to be built, flying as a YA4D-1 in 1954 just two months after the prototype. Transferred to Naval Aircraft Rework Facility (NARF) in 1960 and emerged as a standard A4D-1 (A-4A from 1962), joining VA-83 at NAS Oceana until transferred to Naval Air Facility China Lake for tests in late 1962. Stuck off in mid-1963, it went into store at Litchfield Park but was retrieved by NATC at Patuxent River in 1967 for further testing. Finally retired in 1969 and by 1979 was with the museum and restored to its VA-83 colours

This was the second Skyhawk built, and was originally a YA4D-1. After testing was complete, it was reconfigured into an operational A4D-1 (later A-4A). It is (and still is as of 2022) in the markings it wore when assigned to VA-83.

This first production Skyhawk flew on August 14, 1954, just two months after the prototype XAD4-1. Designated as the first of sixteen YA4D-1s, it was brought up to full AD4-1 specs in 1960. Retired in 1969, it has been with the Naval Aviation Museum since about 1979, marked as it was in service with VA-83.
