On display on the flight deck of CV-10 USS Yorktown at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. The A-7E succeeded the A-7B after the USN was impressed with the uprated non-afterburning Allison TF41-A-2 turbofan. From the early 1970s, most fleet squadrons flew the 'E.' BuNo 159291 A-7E is painted as BuNo 153176 in the colors of VA-147 "Argonauts," first unit to fly the A-7A light attack jet into combat over Vietnam in Dec 1967 as part of CVW-2 embarked on CVA-61 USS Ranger. It carries the name of Cdr G. Kinnear, who flew more types of jet aircraft in combat than any other naval aviator.

On display on the flight deck of CV-10 USS Yorktown at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum. This Hornet served with VMFA-142 "Flying Gators" at NAS Atlanta. The squadron traces its lineage to VMSB-142, activated in 1942 on the SBD Dauntless. During World War II, VMSB-142 participated in the Guadalcanal and Philippines campaigns. Deactivated after the war, the squadron was reactivated in Florida as VMF-142, then VMA-142 on different versions of the Skyhawk and finally as VMFA-142 in Dec 1990. It stood down in July 2008.

Tail section preserved sticking out of a former hangar at this closed airfield; the hangar now serves as a garage for a private residence. My thanks to the owner for allowing me to take pictures. A partial dataplate on the tail reveals that this was once N6209R. The aircraft was written off in an accident while towing a banner over North Myrtle Beach on May 23, 1992, while operated by the Aerial Sign Company of South Carolina.
