Facinating cockpit of this Hornet Moth, complete with original 1930s leather upholstery. Note the unique air brake lever on the left hand side of the lower instrument panel - this caused the undercarriage leg fairings to rotate 90 degrees to the airflow. Very clever!

This Tiger Moth was built for the RAAF and saw wartime service as A17-385. It was one of the earlier Tigers on the civil Register, becoming VH-AKE on Christmas Eve, 1946. In the 1950s it was on the strength of the Canberra Aero Club, but now resides in private hands in Kerang, Vic. Re-painted with RAAF markings over its previous all-silver colour scheme.

This Parrot is owned by my good friends Matt and Karen. It's unusual for an RAAF Parrot, having spent its entire service career with ARDU. The remnants of its ARDU markings, removed by the RAAF when it was sold, can just be made out. Since this photo was taken, the aircraft has been re-painted into its original markings.

This 1960 Aero Commander has had an interesting life. Originally registered in South Africa as ZS-CPG, it then transferred to the Kenyan Register as VP-KPY (later 5Y-KPY when Kenya changed from the British colonial series). In 1975 it came to Australia, being registered on 24 October that year. It's currently based at Melton and did a number of pleasure flights during the Houdini-Centenary Air Show - seen here backtracking after one of them.

This 1985 Metro has an interesting history. Originally N614AV with Air Virginia, which became Nashville Eagle. Then went to Flagship Airlines, then Wings West. In 1987 was being operated for American Eagle. At some stage it was reacquired by the manufacturer and converted to the prototype Fairchild Multi Mission Surveillance Aircraft, carrying a phased-array radar in a long pod under the fuselage. Returned to standard configuration and exported to Australia, becoming VH-SSZ on 29 September 1994. VH-EES since Jul 2001.

Stopping at Langwell on the way home from the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's Auster Rally at Broken Hill was Graeme Smith's newly-restored Auster J.5F Aiglet Trainer VH-BYF(2). The aircraft made its first flight following a decade-long restoration to immaculate condition only a week before the event. It has an interesting pedigree, being a composite of the fuselage of the former VH-BYE and the wings of VH-SAE, which was originally registered VH-BYF(1) in 1953!
